Happy Heart-Happy Home was established in 2018 as a non-profit organization focused on rescuing and rehabilitating old work horses in their senior years of life.
While we offer sanctuary to animals of all kinds, ranging from cows, goats, sheep, and the like, our mission focuses on providing sanctuary to our gentle giants. We care for over 60 equines, the vast majority being of a draft breed that have been worked hard their entire lives, and dumped off at auction, destined for slaughter. These horses suffer from chronic ailments such as osteoarthritis, lymphedema, organ failure, and the most common, emotional trauma. When they come to us, they’re typically starved, neglected, and traumatized, and it is our mission to give these animals a peaceful sanctuary where we can heal their their external and internal scars. Our team uses natural horsemanship techniques to form deep connections between horse and human, and in doing so we share their stories with you, creating an even wider net of love and stewardship. As our mission grows, we are in the beginning stages of offering equine therapy to the public for those suffering from various degrees of emotional trauma and mental disabilities. Hoof in hand, we are creating a happier world for both gentle giants and humans alike.
While we do not have a volunteer program up and running just yet, there are still plenty of ways to help our mission!
