The HHHH Honeybadgers

Our dedicated team of partners and volunteers are lovingly known as the “Honeybadgers.”

Since the tornado hit our first location in Glen Mills and destroyed the farm that we had all worked hard to establish, our incredible team decided that they weren’t going to let this shake the HHHH mission, and adopted the “Honeybadgers” name as a symbol of our resilience. These are the people who make it all possible.

Our Story

Happy Heart-Happy Home Farm and Rescue began with a horse. A horse who needed a second chance and a girl who needed a best friend.

I grew up in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia and had no prior experience with farm animals. I started my journey studying at a college near NYC for fashion design and dance. There was a lot of pressure to look a certain way, and my struggles with disordered eating quickly took off like a wildfire. I was a shell of a human being and my motivation for life was gone. At the end of my first year at school, I transferred to a college closer to home in Delaware County, PA. As I struggled to find my place and purpose, I remembered the stories my dad would tell about the horse he had growing up that he rescued (from the same auction we still rescue from today!). These beautiful memories had such an impact on me that I decided to rescue my own horse in 2011. Celtic came to me as a 300 lb underweight off-the-track thoroughbred, and quickly became my best friend. We’ve heard this trope before: that it was actually the animal that rescued me. But in this case, that was exactly what happened. As I’m sure you can imagine, we both helped each other to heal physically and emotionally. What Celtic has done for me, I’m sure I can never repay. He’s the reason I’m breathing. He’s the reason I vowed to give as many lost, broken souls a second chance at life as possible, like he did for me.

The herd grew slowly over the years, and then in 2018, I established Happy Heart Happy Home Farm and Rescue to give as many animals a well-deserved home as possible. Now, on our farm in Salem, New Jersey, our herd has grown to over 60 horses, mules, donkeys, and ponies, plus a small community of rescued goats, sheep, cows, pigs, cats and dogs. We have an amazing team of partners and volunteers that care for our beloved residents, and we have a growing community of supporters like you who make all of this possible. This journey isn’t easy, but I am honored to be here, sharing our residents’ stories, and living this life alongside them all. Happy Heart-Happy Home is just getting started, and I thank you all for being part of it. We are so grateful for you!
